Day 6….

12 06 2010

done and done. 87 miles, lots of hills too. we stuck together as a group- the shifting gears training group and made the ride better. the day was gorgeous and we worked our way into Santa Barbara down the coast line. the local community baked cookies and passed out ice cream for all the riders! this one lady baked 250 for each day that we were on the road.

Tonight we had a vigil in memory of all victims. I couldn’t help bit think how AIDS has made a global impact and it needs to end. I’ve met so many riders recently who do this ride year after year. to me, this ride has been completely physically hard for me but I get it. AIDS life cycle has raised 8 million dollars and the final numbers aren’t in yet. 8 million to help in treating, educating and research for those living with HIV and AIDS….

tomorrow june 12 the VA center awaits. ( off the 405 /wilshire area) we should roll in around 2 pm. closing ceremony to begin at 4 pm. everyone is more than welcomed to join. for more info please check out aidslifecycle.org

goodnight :)

Day 5….

12 06 2010

day five. mother nature played a cruel trick on us. wind gusts…. horrible wind gusts. it was red day so it helped…

we did 67 miles or so and even crossed solvang!

Day 4

10 06 2010

day 4… Done and done! 97.8 miles completed. Today we arrived to camp at 6 pm. passed some gorgeous beaches but most of all…. passed the half way point after completing the evil twin hills (steep and steady hills) tomorrow is red dress day in honor of those affected with HIV and AIDS. it will be extremely interesting to see what these fab men wear! I’ve heard that someone already pre added bike clips kleets to their stilletos…. :)

currently in Santa Maria, ca ( yeah…. I don’t know exactly where that is either)

thank you for your awesome support.

Day 2…. Deleted iphone :(

9 06 2010

on to day 4- I’m sore this morning and tired. turns out goin to the coast means facing the evil twin hills…. 96 miles, Half way home .. here we come!!!!!

Day 3….

9 06 2010

were starting to feel it.. hot hot weather.

We began the day cycling with a bang. steady incline, water stop and bamb… “quadbuster” it’s coined that way cause it’s an ass kicking steep hill but thankfully it was short. all that training really paid off. we passed an area that also looked like Africa. temperatures soared as the day progressed. we lathered up with in sunscreen but as of right now, managed to have a red nose. we also got hooked up by the local school with awesome fire grilled burgers as they funraised for their school programs. the highlight was stopping by San Miguel mission. a small prayer was in place for many things. we reached camp early enough too, this time Deb and I paced ourselves and were happy to get there. major issue today was dehydration and I think we dodged it with lots and lots and lots of food and water. as I write this we’ve covered about 252 miles…. we’ve seen so much already and it’s all been a hard but worth while experience. the staff of ALC are remarkable individuals. here’s to 96 miles to do tomorrow where we will reach our halfway point….another long day. wish us luck.

ps thank you for the shoutouts. it really means so much. goodnight.

Day 1 …..

9 06 2010

day 1: we left Cow Palace (a few miles away from the SF bay area) speedy after opening ceremonies finished at 7 am. all 2,500 cyclist flew down the route in heavy fog. The day finally cleared slowly but Debbie and I felt good. the route down the coast was gorgeous, we arrived in camp (completely organized by the staff!!) we got our assigned tents and luggage from the uhaul trucks that were shipped to us. it felt like band camp but… cyclist camp with some really cool peeps. lights were completely out by 9 pm and so were we after the day.
